PIGMENTATION TREATMENTS INCLUDE:

PIGMENTATION TREATMENT IN SHREWSBURY

Pigmentation refers to colouring of the skin, usually in patches and often on the face or the hands. Age spots, sun spots and liver spots are all forms of pigmentation which are commonly seen. Although these aren’t harmful, people often want them removed for cosmetic reasons.

There are many causes of irregular or excessive skin pigmentation. Pigmentation on the hands and face are generally the result of sun damage, with a combination of years of sun exposure. The development of flat basal cell papillomas (ageing warts) can also lead to skin pigmentation.

The good news is these pigmentations respond well to a number of laser type treatments and at St Michael’s Clinic we use either intense pulsed light photorejuvenation or the Trivantage laser. Assessment and diagnosis by our skin specialists will allow the right treatment choice to be made to get the best results for you as an individual.

MELASMA AND CHLOASMA

As the damage builds, you may see deep lines or dry, scaly patches called actinic keratoses (AKs). An AK is a precancerous skin growth and sun damage can also lead to skin cancer. And sometimes an AK turns into a type of skin cancer called squamous cell carcinoma. Find out the skin cancer treatments we offer here.

While much of the damage is permanent, treatment can reduce some signs of sun damage that are making you look older.

Sun damage including redness, pigmentation and wrinkles can respond well to a number of laser type treatments and at St Michael’s Clinic we use either intense pulsed light photorejuvenation or more targeted treatment with the Cynergy pulsed dye laser, the Trivantage laser or the Encore CO2 laser.

Assessment and diagnosis by our skin specialists will allow the right treatment choice to be made to get the best results for you as an individual.

TREATMENTS FOR SKIN PIGMENTATION PROBLEMS

We have a number of methods for helping with skin pigment problems from prescription creams, laser treatments and chemical peels.

We offer simple and effective laser and IPL treatments to combat pigmentation problems. Both laser and IPL treatments provide visible results after just one treatment, treating a range of sun damage and pigmentation conditions including age spots, sun spots, liver spots, freckles and melasma. Treatments usually take between 15 and 30 minutes and can be described as feeling like a warm elastic band snapping against the skin. Lasers are more effective in treating age spots and pigmented lesions and can usually remove them in just one session. IPL however takes slightly longer, with treatment needing to be repeated every four weeks for a course of two-four sessions. Immediately after treatment, the treated area becomes darker, crusts and peels off over 1 to 2 weeks, leaving a pinkish area of new skin lasting several more weeks. Significant fading can continue for up to 6 months after treatment in some cases.

Chemical peels can also be used as a treatment for skin pigmentations. Chemical peels work by applying a chemical solution to the surface of the skin to carefully remove its outer layers. The chemical solution causes the top layers of the skin to gently peel off, making way for new, healthy skin to shine through.
